Mary Wynn Ryan has been named executive director of the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra effective July 1, 2016.
Ryan brings to the position decades of hands-on experience in management, marketing and communications for non-profit organizations and businesses as well as award-winning creative direction and writing. She has held management positions at major design centers, national trade and business associations, boutique ad agencies with Fortune 500 clients, and publications for businesses and consumers.
A former Park Ridge alderman and Park Ridge Park District president, she also was an appointee on the Mayor’s Commission for Economic Development and currently serves on the boards of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce and Park Ridge Community Fund. Two years ago, she helped launch an upgrade the Orchestra’s marketing and brought in the award-winning artist Rex Parker to create the popular posters seen in kiosks around the City. Ryan will continue serving selected clients through her company, Winning Ways Marketing, but will focus on strengthening and expanding the Orchestra’s base.
“The Orchestra currently depends entirely on private grants, donations and ticket sales to pay more than 75 professional musicians, venue costs and other expenses for each concert,” explains President Pam Benitez. “We are happy to have Mary’s marketing expertise, management experience and enthusiastic community involvement to help the Orchestra continue growing our supporters and patrons.”
Says Ryan, “Park Ridge’s cultural offerings are attracting more and more people from the greater Chicago area, and what I like to call “the winter orchestra” is a key part of the mix. Our fall-to-spring season of pops and classics at the iconic Pickwick Theater has increased concert attendance 67 percent in the last two years alone, and the more people know about us, the stronger we’ll be. Supporting our wonderful musicians, we have extraordinary board members, volunteers and vendors, and I look forward to all we can accomplish together.”
