Nicholas Brown, Violin
Nicholas Brown is the Rachel Barton Pine Merit Scholarship Fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a training center for advanced pre-college musicians, where he studies violin with Almita and Roland Vamos. Nicholas made his debut with orchestra at the age of nine, playing with the International Gathering of Youth Orchestras. His solo performance led Nicholas and his siblings to be featured in two segments on Fox News.
In addition to performing solo, Nicholas enjoys playing chamber music. Nicholas has taken master classes with Ilya Kaler, Rachel Barton Pine, Shirley Givens, the Emerson String Quarter, the Ying Quartet. Jonathan Carney, Kelly Hall-Tompkins, Lambert Orkis, and Igor Yuzefovich, among others. Nicholas’s PRCO Scholarship is the J. Mark Waltz Memorial Scholarship, underwritten by Karin Waltz in honor of her late husband, J. Mark Waltz, a long-time member of the PRCO’s bass section.
Anthony Dare, Clarinet
Anthony Dare, age 17, is from Park Ridge and attends Maine South High School. He is the clarinet section leader of the Maine South High School Concert Band under the direction of David Hutter. Anthony has been playing clarinet for 8 years. He is a clarinetist and bass clarinetist of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. This is his first year in the CYSO and he “absolutely loves it”.
In addition to Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra he is also a member of the Music Institute of Chicago where he studies with Barbara Drapcho. He has been a student at MIC for 3 years starting when he was a sophomore. His favorite hobbies other than clarinet are cooking, learning history and watching Anime and cartoons. Anthony's future plans are to become a professional clarinetist. Anthony is co-winner of the PRCO Scholarship that is underwritten by the Rotary Club of Park Ridge, the Rotary International Educational Scholarship.
Leevy Williams, Cello
Leevy Williams is the Kay and Jim Mabie Merit Scholar Fellow at the Academy of the Music Institute of Chicago, where she studies cello performance with artist faculty members, Gilda Barston and Hans Jørgen Jensen. A National Honor Society Senior at Chicago’s Lincoln Park High School, Leevy was selected to its International Baccalaureate – Music Performance academic program. She began her cello studies in 2002 at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Leevy joined the Community School of the Music Institute of Chicago in 2008 and in 2013, was selected to The Academy, its elite pre-conservatory training center. Leevy is a member of The Academy's chamber group, Quartet Vibrante, as well as a member of the Academy Chamber Orchestra, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and Lincoln Park Symphony Orchestra. Leevy is co-winner of the PRCO Scholarship that is underwritten by the Rotary Club of Park Ridge, the Rotary International Educational Scholarship.
