The PRCO had a full house for its popular holiday celebration, featuring the 40’s-style Irving Sisters trio and bass Sam Weiser. Maestro Victor Muenzer took the audience on a tour of favorite seasonal music plus stalwart classics by Johann and Richard Strauss. PRCO’s trumpeters – Edgar Campos, Gene Arnold, and Greg Strauss – played “Bugler’s Holiday” in high style. The festive mood was felt in the concert hall and lobby, with pre-concert carols on the Pickwick organ and St. Mary of Providence’s choir continuing their Christmas songs at intermission. Sam Weiser’s rendition of “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” had all his resonant bass notes scaring the trio of sisters as they tried to approach the Grinch as part of their act, and repeatedly left them running for cover. All came out for friendly bows in the end, and it was a triumph for the maestro and musicians and guest artists as they enjoyed their standing ovation from a delighted and appreciative crowd.
