This season we examine ROMANCE, in all its mystery!
The Invitation to the Dance is about a man who woos a woman at a dance. This music colorfully paints the expectation, evasiveness, flirtation, and coquettishness occurring between the dancers.
Coppelia is the story of a doll mistaken to be a real girl and the ensuing complications and chaos that beset those around her.
The Fairy's Kiss is the tale of a fairy with supernatural powers whose tender kisses have strange consequences.
Sleeping Beauty is the fable of a princess cursed into a deep sleep of 100 years and then awakened by the kiss of a handsome prince.
About the Narrator:
PETER VAN DE GRAAFF, producer and host of WFMT's Through the Night, is a musicologist and a classically-trained bass baritone, who has appeared as a soloist with the PRCO several times. He will narrate this program and expand on the fascinating stories and circumstances that influenced the music for the four ballets that Maestro Muenzer and the orchestra will play. This program brings forth many beautiful and familiar tunes.
